ShareGift Australia – helping convert your shares to benefit Australian charities
ShareGift Australia helps investors tidy up their portfolios through donating small parcels of shares that would otherwise be difficult and expensive to trade.
More than 200,000 Australians hold small parcels of shares worth more than $80 million. Selling such small parcels can be costly and hard, but ShareGift Australia, a not-for-profit organisation, helps shareholders convert them to help a wide range of Australian charities.
The solution is simple, transparent and tax deductible.
ShareGift Australia exists to provide Australian shareholders with the opportunity to sell shares held in Australian publicly listed companies, then donate the proceeds to charity, without having to pay fees.
Selling and donating through ShareGift Australia ensures that the sale proceeds are distributed to Australian charities holding deductible gift recipient status. All ShareGift transactions are sold on-market, free of brokerage fees.
The organisation is endorsed by the ASX, which rebates transaction fees for all sell trades where proceeds are donated to ShareGift Australia. ShareGift’s sponsors cover all administrative costs.
ShareGift Australia makes its donation distribution decisions based on suggestions and requests by donors; it doesn’t solicit or accept funding requests from charitable organisations. Donations are distributed and published quarterly.
Launched in July 2007, the organisation is based on the successful UK charity ShareGift, which has donated more than £10 million and supported more than 1,000 registered UK charities in the past decade.
In the past year, ShareGift Australia has donated nearly $25,000 to more than 20 Australian charities, including Anti-Cancer Council of Victoria, Oxfam, RSPCA, The Smith Family, National Stroke Foundation and Big Issue.
